Bio

Wendy has over 20 years’ experience in civil litigation in New Zealand with a main focus on construction, insolvency and debt recovery and security enforcement.

Wendy joined Norling Law in March 2020 as a Senior Legal Executive when she was still completing her law degree. She is now an integral member of the Leadership Team and Head of Legal Operations at Norling Law.

Wendy started practicing as a lawyer recently in 2021. Wendy has always been passionate about law, and after her three sons became older, she fulfilled her life-long dream of completing a Law Degree and becoming a lawyer. With her extensive prior experience in civil litigation in various roles (legal search clerk, secretary and then legal executive), she has advanced quickly in her career. She is now a Senior Associate at Norling Law.

Wendy is also a trained commercial mediator having completed training at Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, USA and the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ). Wendy is also an Associate Member of AMINZ. This training complements the skills she already has in negotiation and dispute resolution.

Wendy’s greatest passion is to assist others to navigate conflict so they can get on with running their business and enjoying life, and she is also very good at it. Wendy truly cares about the clients and other people who surround her.

Throughout her career, Wendy has developed an effective negotiation style and has assisted many commercial clients negotiate successful outcomes due to her knowledge of:

  • Disputes between company directors and shareholders;
  • Disputes over commercial leases;
  • Construction Disputes and advising on construction law and procedure;
  • Disputes between shareholders (some of which involve complex legal issues);
  • Advising on shareholder rights to information
  • Enforcement action including liquidating companies, bankrupting individuals, prosecuting for contempt of Court, and obtaining orders for arrest, attachment, charging and sale;
  • Disputes relating to potential breaches of director duties claims;
  • Miscellaneous debt recovery (some of which involve complex legal issues);
  • IRD negotiations including representing clients seeking financial relief under the Tax Administration Act 1994;
  • General contract law and contract interpretation;
  • Claims in misrepresentation, repudiation of contract; and
  • Estate litigation.

Wendy is a natural problem solver and uses her calming demeanour and down to earth communication style which assists many of her parties to reach resolution. Wendy’s greatest passion is to assist others to navigate conflict so they can get on with running their businesses and enjoying life.

Wendy began her mediation training to help her clients through the unpleasant experience of managing litigation. She believes mediation is a way to resolve disputes which enables and empowers the parties to negotiate and resolve the dispute promptly, cost effectively, and confidentially rather than have a decision imposed upon them by a judge or arbitrator.
